Foreword
Ahmed
Zewail is the Linus Pauling chair professor of chemistry and professor of
physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is currently the
director of physical biology center for ultrafast science and technology at
Caltech, and served as the director of Caltech’s laboratory for molecular
sciences, which operated from 1996 to 2006 with support from the national
science foundation.
In 1999,
Dr. Zewail was awarded the Nobel prize in chemistry for his pioneering
developments in femtoscience, which made it possible to observe atoms in motion,
the transition states of molecular transformations.
Besides his
thirteen published books, as author and editor, Zewail has published over 500
papers with a research family of more than 250 members, most of them are in
leading academic, governmental, and industrial positions worldwide.
His biography, voyage through time –
walks of life to the Nobel Prize, was published in seventeen languages and
editions.
